Future of Poker
The future of poker is on a one-way track to the promise
land. Poker is on fire. Casinos are adding poker rooms everyday. The
TV ratings for poker are through the roof. The age of online poker continues
to grow and has in fact doubled in the past year. New online sites are
being added to the already overwhelming number of online poker rooms
to choose from. WPT and many other sites are going public and joining
the stock exchanges.
Is poker just the latest fad? In my estimation, poker
will be around forever and online poker will be the fuel to keep the
poker fire running. More home games are going on than every before.
I’ve seen parents hosting a poker tournament in their house for
their 13 year old son and friends. Teenagers would rather spend their
allowance or pay checks from their part-time job on buy-ins to poker
tournaments instead of alcohol or cigarettes.
The WSOP started back in 1970 with only 77 entrants
and that was the only year the winner was decided by popular vote. Then
in 1971, the winner received a first place prize of $30,000 now compared
to the 2005 WSOP winner which received $7.5 million dollars and 5,600
entrants. Poker to me is the new lottery and get rich scheme out there.
People would rather pay $10 in to a tournament than buy lotto tickets
because you have some control when playing poker.
All I can say is I’m glad poker is here and
hope it never goes away.
